Spring is the perfect time for planting seeds. April 2017 was no exception.
About 70 Labor of Love volunteers gathered in East Texas the first weekend of April to plant seeds of hope.
We started the weekend as the guest of the Glenn Beck program in Dallas, Texas. The 5th anniversary of our first Labor of Love in Joplin, Missouri, it was a great opportunity to celebrate and discuss with Glenn what we have learned on this journey.
We assisted the terrific young men of Kingdom Life Academy, Tyler TX to more than double the capacity of the large garden they have built to provide food for their own needs at school and to give back to their community.
Women rebuilding their lives from addiction living at Simply Grace in Tyler were offered seeds of hope through multiple projects:
- A huge container garden
- Household supplies purchased through an Amazon Wish List
- A cookbook library donated by Labor of Love women all over the country
- Personal care totes containing cosmetics, water bottles, journals, handmade blankets and other items
Labor of Love volunteers painted the exterior of a home and helped with some interior projects for a woman in Bullard whose home and life had fallen into disrepair. It was a sweet reward to watch her smile and connection with volunteers blossom as the days passed. We know there are brighter days ahead for our new friend.
